01 Opti 200... Primer bulb will not stay hard

I replaced the fuel lines with the new stuff including a new primer bulb thanks to Don and Rhonda. The primer bulb pumps up hard at first. Motor starts just fine and idles just fine. The boat does have a horrible hole shot (another story). After a run, the bulb is not hard. The fuel filter was replaced in March and the pulse pump was rebuilt then also.

I am not sure if the bulb should remain hard or not as I have never really checked it before. If it is a problem then I am just looking for a place to start looking.

    Thanks in advance
    George

The bulb will not stay hard, once the fuel pump takes over the fuel line has a vacuum on it sucking the fuel to the pump. If the bulb is collapsing then you have a problem.

It sounds like the tank is not vented. If it's not vented, then it would create a vacuum. If it is vented, then I'd change the bulb to start with, since it's only 12 bucks.

Check to make sure that the vent hose doesn't have a dip in it where gas could have sloshed when you had a full tank of fuel. If there's enough of a dip and gas in sitting there then it's not venting.

Prime bulb beore every time before first start fo the day.
Check and make sure the arrow is pointing upwards on the primer bulb inline towards the engine, if it lays flat or the arrow is pointing downward in your bilge this could be your problem, make sure all connections (etiher zip ties or hose clamps) are tight

I think I found the problem. I relocated the bulb from the battery compartment to the outside. It was with the wiring harness going to the motor and the bulb was pointing down so it was loosing its prime.

    Thanks for the help.
