    more Air for my 250XB

I have an idea, but I want to hear your comments if its a good or bad idea.

Rather than bolting on a MAD EFI or a Brucato, what about drilling either 4 or 6 say 1" holes on the front of the hood, put livewell screens in the holes to protect from the elements, then drill the equal amount of holes in the front cover in the same place of the EFI to drive in direct more air into the intake.

    Let me know your thoughts.

its on a 21xd, 14" setback, even with pad, tm case 1:75 gears, turning an A45 tempest to 6400 rpms at 84- 85.5mph depending on the day. motor has 300 heads and ecu, hydrotech tuner, poppet valve light flywheel.

If you talkin about drillin holes in the intake cover, that wont work. motor will be getting way too much air for anything other than WFO. Motor will not idle and will be way lean except at WFO. Brucatto SVS has shutters that only gradually open with the throttle linkage in the upper RPM band. MAD EFI is a total replacement EFI system that operates like the factory set-up but allows more air in the upper RPM band.

How can it at idle as the butterflies are closed so even if you have holes in the front no more air can enter until you start to open the butterflies. I weould think you need to be going quite fast to atually drive in that extra air anyway, am I correct. Will the computer compensate for the extra air to some degree.

I would try talking to kllr bee, he seems to know more about the xb than anybody else I have talked to. He is the one that posted a lot of the mods in the Merc 3.0 forum.

    Bass Bullet,

It sounds to me like you are wanting to drill holes in the front cover of the intake. That is what is bolted on in the front of the engine. You would be drilling directly into the intake and opening it up to open air just like if the butterflys were wide open. The Brucatto SVS and the MAD systems replace this front cover, they do not bolt on in front of it. You will ruin your engine if you drill holes in the aluminum cover you see in the front of the engine when you remove the cowling.
