    Help with my first Bullet

    Hi everbody,
I have decided to purchase me my first Bullet this winter. I need some help on what motor choice. I ran a 250 Pro XS on my ranger before, now am looking at 20XRD with 225 Pro Sport XS or 250 XS. Also looking at a 21RDC with a 300XS. This will be my first Bullet and I am looking for some advice. I dont run wide open all the time and gas mileage is important to me. Any help on which way to go I would be greatful.
    Thanks!!!!!

Depends if you want speed or a better ride and more storage and deck. Gotta have a place to keep it and you need more room for the 21er..

I like the bigger boat for what I do. Max it out unless you fish 250 hp max tournaments...

Re: Help with my first Bullet (21XDC)

    Welcome aboard

Like Mike said, if you do more fishing then playing in big waters that get rough then the 21 is for you and yes get the 300XS, sportmaster 1.62, 14" set back and a Croxton 30 Bravo it will get great MPG even at WOT compaiered to most motors..

The Bullet hull is more efficient then what your used to and will get better MPG it self..

If you fish smaller water and may like to play a little more then the 20' will do you well.. It will match up nice to a 250 or 300 both with sportmasters 1.62 gears on a 12" rapid jack.

If I were you I would go with the 21RDC with the 300XS you will love extra realestate lots of deck and good gas mileage. Like kramer said I wish I also had the 300XS and I am looking at one see if will tickle my fancy. good luck...

Thanks Guys!!! How much better gas mileage can I get with the 300XS for the engine price difference? My Ranger Z520 had a 250ETEC HO and got ok mileage.

We have seen most people getting between 5-6 MPG @ cruising speeds with the 300XS.

Nick Welcome to the BBC and you might want to talk with Marty in detail....Look at the John Powell's new rig thread and see the attention to detail they offer. You could do worse

Re: Help with my first Bullet (Nick Miller)

I think that if you are comparing mileage between different boats with the same motors, you simply have to look at the weights of the boats. A 1200 Bullet is going to use much less fuel than a 1600lb Ranger with the same engine.

I went from having a 200 EFI to a 225 Promax on my 20xd and was worried that the mileage would be bad but I don't think there was much difference given that I felt the 200 was underpowered. The same analogy could be used when going from a Ranger to a Bullet....

One thing is almost certain, you won't be disappointed with a Bullet.

    Thanks for the help guys!!!
Another question is why does the rear compartment lid not open toward the inside of the boat? Does that not make it hard to get at from the boat side when on the water?

Re: Help with my first Bullet (Nick Miller)

    Nick,
here's the deal and its a great one. The 21 ft Bullet with 300 will be at crusing (mid range for it) at the 70 ish speeds, YES thats this boats crusing speeds and it will get as said great mileage, then if you need the extra 20 MPH for passing or to get out front or back early (safety first) you will see better mileage than the ranger and even though its 20 cent more a gallon for the 91 octane, thats only3-5 bucks more a fillup. get the 21 and 300 and you'll always have a great ride also this Bullet boat will stay on PAD at a lower RPM than the ranger will, mine on PAD flat at 18 mph.

Re: Help with my first Bullet (Nick Miller)

Get the 300XS I love mine. It burns half the fuel that my old XP150 does on my 18ft. ranger. Economy cruise is as fast as the other boats will run and you will have a lot left. As far as the rear compartment doors I've never had to open the rear hatch while out on the lake. Knock on wood!

Re: Help with my first Bullet (Nick Miller)

You can get to the back compartment if necessary just like most boats (if not all) were done. And many still are... On a boat of this caliber and speed if that big lid would pop open I am sure it would NOT be fun...

I have had to open mine numerous times. I tripped the breaker on my troller and had to get to it. I am a big fella and didn't have any problems getting it open. You just have to step over it then open. Not that big a deal

There you go picking on the big people again. I think you grow 2 feet when you get on that keyboard. Bad thing is that still would put you a little shy of 6'

Re: Help with my first Bullet (KRAMER 21XD)

Nick; Get the bigger Bullet ; you won,t be sorry !!! The 21 RDC or 21 XDC with the 300 XS is a very good combo that will make you smile a lot... The 250 Pro XS might be a better engine choice if you dont need to go over 85 mph. The 250 Pro XS models use regular fuel and will save you a lot in fuel costs yet still perform very very well... There have been times when getting Premium fuel has been a problem at marinas .. Either engine will make you happy on these great boats...

Re: Help with my first Bullet (signmanbasser)

If the budget would allow, I'd go with the 21xrd and 300xs. I currently have an '03 20xdc with a 280 on it. After riding in a 21'er with the 300xs last fall I'm sold. Don't get me wrong, love my 20xdc, the bigger boat is just nice to have.

Not to mention getting fuel for my 280 can be a bit challenging. I buy 111 octane race fuel at $9.25 a gallon and dilute it down with 91 to get around 95 octane. Still averaging around $7.00 per gallon mixed. I guess I should look at the bright side, at WOT I can get almost one mile per gallon.......with a light load..........
