    Re: Mercury 250 XB (bullet_boats)

It was designed by Merc Racing assembled my Mercury Motors. It's a powerful motor with a great maintenance record. I just traded one in and had ZERO maintenance problems with the motor in 5 years.

I run a 2001 250xb, great strong motor no problems to date. If you buy her you'll have an 80+ mph rig.

    Re: Mercury 250 XB (bullet_boats)

I have an XB and it is a very strong mota. It does like the fuel, but not much more than my 225 EFI if you hammer it. Nothing growls like an XB

Re: Mercury 250 XB (Fat Basser)

Best motor Merc ever made. It is the only one I would want from merc.

On the plus side it can be modded to way more HP than you need!!!

    Re: Mercury 250 XB (Neveredge)

I have an 01 XB on a 21xd. What all can be done to it.

Mine runs best speed so far at 79.3 on gps tourny loaded 1/2 tank gas, spinning a PT TRO 27 at 5500 rpms, motor is even with pad.

Can I get anymore out of her. I know the RPM is low, but raising the motor made it slower.

Re: Mercury 250 XB (bass bullet)

Your rpms are way too low for the XB.....it wants to run about 6100 rpm.

Re: Mercury 250 XB (bass bullet)

Something is strange there. I had that exact combo and my motor would spin a 27 Trophy to 6050 pretty easy running 84-85 MPH. And that was with my motor probably 1.5" below the pad. I could spin a 26" Trophy to 6200 RPMs for 83-84 MPH all day. And this was full of fuel and my gear.

    Re: Mercury 250 XB (Basswipe)

I have a 26 trophy, and it spins at 61-6200, but will top out at 77 mph. Same motor height.

I have tried it above, and below. It seems to like even with pad, but I am puzzled with the low top speed.

I bought the PT 27, and its a bit faster but rpm's are way low. Any suggestions.

I have a sportmaster with 1.75 gears, water pressure is 12 to 14 psi.

    Set back is 14"

Boat is 96, and motor is a 2001. Its bone stock, no mods.

    Appreciate all your comments.

Re: Mercury 250 XB (bass bullet)

The only explanation I have is that your prop may be slipping (the 26), or your tach is wrong. You should be busting 80 with NO problem. When you run it even and above, do you have a MOD to the LU (top holes blocked)? I don't think I'd have the enough water pressure to run mine even or above. I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but are you running a TM gearcase?

I think you need a torque master 1.75 gears.
