Everything I have read about installing a shoot-thru-hull transducer talks about what a pain it is to remove the gas tank. Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to do this? Or at least what the most difficult part is deal with?![]()
Thanks

I have had my tank out 4-5 times. The first time is the hardest learning what all you need to do. It is rather simple to do but a stupid design. You just need to take off the fuel gauge sending unit wires, gas fill and vent hose. Take off the hold down brackets. Put a rope/similar around the bottom of the tank to give you a handle to lift it out. I take off the trim piece that wraps around the lid opening to make more room. Make sure you run the tank out as low as possible. Do not use a vaccuum to shrink the tank.
Some have lived to tell, Some have not.

If your boat is older, You might consider putting in new pumps/flo-rite pump out nozzle/bilge at this time or adding livewell lights. You can just tap into the anchor light if you like.

Just like 21xdc said about the tank, its not that bad man just a little tricky to fish it out. The tank looks bigger than the hole, I just installed a transducer a couple months ago. Make sure you sand the area down good and clean with acetone. Sand the puck as well. You need to make a small dam around the puck (I used rope caulk from ACE hardware) Mix your epoxy and stick it, make sure you twist it in place to remove the air bubbles. Place a weight on it and let it set. Here is a few pics to help.

Thanks for all the help guys! This information will same me a lot of worry, time, blood, thrown tools and unnecessary cursing over the weekend.
I REALLY appreciate the help!!!!!!!
no problem man, those pics are the first time I had my tank out to. It helps to have another set of hands but I didn't have that luxury..... Take your time and keep a cool head, I had the help of Wild Turkey on my side. Worked for me!!!!
Like 21xdc said, definately look at installing new lights and an areator upgrade while you have it apart!!![]()
I used a small angle die grinder and a sanding pad to clean it up
