So the Hydrotec exhaust tuner has been out for a while... http://www.shop.hydrotecmarine...Id=10
Wondering how the 3.0 merc guys are finding it?
Have any Simonized Merc guys put it in? Have you seen any value?

I can't make a claim to any power increase because I put it on during my new motor build, but I can say it's a very nice piece of work...........sounds good too..![]()

I was told it hurts your holeshot, is that hearsay or true..
Again, all I can say is I sure don't have any hole shot issues............![]()

A lot will depend on your setup, and whether or not the poppet diverter is installed.
It's certainly going to be an improvement if you're replacing a "plugged" tuner.![]()

I'm suprised....when it was announced it seemed like everyone was really excited about the tuner???
Wonder how many have actually been sold then if there is no reports on it ???
In all honesty, unless you've got your motor on a dyno you can't make any claims other than the seat of the pant dyno we all have...........![]()
Wayne at HydroTec did dyno his tuner and say's a average 12 HP gain will be realized with his tuner. 12 HP is a good increase, but honestly, it's somewhat hard to feel that's why I won't make any claims......![]()
I've got one in my mod'd 250 EFI and will put one in my new motor when I get it done over the winter months.

I've been told its basically a copy of the 300X tuner . However some people have them on thier X and they say they like them as well, however i havent heard any mph gains from these people before or after.
I'll probably try one in the spring, its not just the cost of the tuner yuo have to conisder when instaling one its the gaskets as well their almost as much as the tuner.
I have bought a half dozen my self. We have installed them on a Simon 3.1L clone, 300x clone, stock 300x, 250xs, totally modded 300x and I have one for my current project! I have some dyno sheets from 2 of the motors and in both cases the HP increased and it did not decrease the torque..... They are different than a 300x tuner.
There ya go, if anybody would know.........Todd would, being the HP junkie he is...............![]()

Wayne has a Crankshaft Dyno HP chart on his site.... not sure, but I believe the mods were "cumulative":

Everyone stop bothering Todd, he's working on finishing his

If the results are cumulative, it appears the tuner only helped at high RPMs. The LW flywheel and ECU reprogram on the other hand worked across the entire range. Unless I read things wrong.![]()

The way I read it, the port & blueprint, along with the tuner, give the gains. A light flywheel willshow a HP gain on most dynos that is not there, due to allowing the motor to rev quicker, applying more torque to the dyno. Light flywheel will give a performance gain, but not on top.
Once my XS is ready for a rebuild, I would definitely consider the port & blueprint, as those will be real gains.
Instead of me sending a motor to Eric, he worked with me to build one myself with his knowledge and parts.
No warp drives at this timeBut that would definitely be a first in the marine industry
