    Trol motor problem

While fishing today, the trol motor went out. I had it on high and was crossing a canal and I thought it was a fuse. Checked all the fuses and they were ok. When I got home I checked it out. I traced it down to the plug. I had power to the plug but not to the trol motor. I took the plug apart and noticed that it started to melt under the jumper. Did I get a bad plug or is there something more? I bought the plug yesterday.

Happend to me before, Those are some expensive ass plugs to burn up, but they do. Tha Female end on the boat is always a problem area. Think the female end is 60 bucks!

This is the male that burned up. The female looks like it has been on the boat forever. Had to add the male to the trol motor.

Barry it's not uncommon for them to burn up, just keep an extra one in your boat for next time.Thats alotta juice running through that plug so it's gonna get hot if you run on high bypass and after awhile will melt.

we have that problem alot on dads bay boat, we finally just eliminated the plug all together and hard wired it, it had got to the point where it would melt the plug and fuse a connection and burn the complete troller motor up , after two new trollers we just hard wired it

The plug is a weak point. It is convenient to have one, but it is a weak point. There are many factors that come into play with these plugs. Bottom line, high amps(because you are running on high) due to low voltage. It's a pay me now pay me later type deal.

Barry if the female plug has a lot of corrosion you will not make a very good connection which will create high amperage which creates heat.
