Ethanol Free 91 Octane for Storage?

I noticed that one of the gas docks at a local marina carries 91 octane that is ethanol free.

Don, I know you don't recommend "running" that fuel, but is there something I can do to use this to my advantage when I go to store my boat for next winter?

Maybe run my tanks low, then partially fill them with this ethanol free stuff and run some of that through the engine prior to storage?

Then top the tanks off with 87 prior to the first trip next spring?

Obiously, I'd still do all of the normal/recommended winterization processes.

    Thanks,
    Tim

The "octane" portion of your question MIGHT work.

However, the SAFEST method of tank storage is DRY. Then start with a "fresh load of fuel" in the spring.

One other thing to note: MANY of the "phase separation" problems we see in fuel systems come from "switching" back and forth between "ethanol" and "non-ethanol" fuel.

It's recommended that you pick one, and REMAIN with it. Anytime it's necessary to switch- do so with your tank "as close to DRY as PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE".

Cool. Glad I asked. I figured it might be a good thing for storage....

    Thanks again!
