Educate me on 3.0L Bleed Lines

How's about an education on what Bleed Lines really do from start to finish. The reason I'm asking is........

    1. To Learn

    2. To better understand......Based on all the different Bleed Line Routings....can there be that much of a difference between the years to warrant upteen different ways to run the lines on a 3.0L's ???

In a nutshell the bleed lines do what it says, they bleed excess fuel/oil from the motor back into the fuel system and bearings. The cylinders have one way check valves out that push the excess out and bearings have one way in check valves to capture fuel/oil mixture to lubricate bearings. the intake drains down with gravity. Everything that is not used is pushed back into the VST tank for reuse. That's the best I can explain it. As for the different routing, Mercury is always trying to improve the system.

And to add, the "technical" purpose of the bleed system is: "To remove unused and puddled fuel from one area of the engine, and move it to another area of the engine, where it can be used for lubrication, or recirculated and burnt".
