    EuropeanAM question

I have a Merc 225 EFI ('01) and the tach doesn't work. It was suggested I check the voltage regulator. I removed the motor cover, "I see England, I see France" but I don't see no stinking voltage regulator . Where is it and what does it look like?

    Thanks
    Roger

Wait for Don to answer....but I believe your voltage regulator is in the alternator.

    That would be correct.

Tach signal is generated from the ECM (based on the signal coming from the CPS or "crankshaft position sensor"). If the engine is running- the signal is there.

Most likely would be a connection problem, such as a break in the gray signal wire, lack of 12V+ power on the purple (tachometer "I" terminal), lack of ground on the "G" terminal, or a faulty tachometer.

Common location of problem: CANNON PLUG CONNECTOR at the the engine keyswitch-harness connection. Separate plug.... clean terminals, and slightly "open" the male pins with a small pocketknife. Reconnect, and TIE WRAP the connector in place so it doesn't vibrate around during engine operation.
