What a Comeback for Louisiana! An Yes, The BASS Classic is Back!

Hey fella's, I want to share something I stumbled on in my archives of fishing articles. What I have is a piece of article that Chris Ginn reported just after Hurricane Katrina. This article is somewhat serious to all of us at the time because we didn't know if Louisiana's title of being known as the, "Sportsman Paradise", would return. Some of u will find this rather interesting to see how natural mother took matters in her own hands despite of what we predicted or thought.

    "NOTED FROM CHRIS GINN'S ARTICLE"

In 1999, Davy Hite won the CITGO Bassmaster Classic in an area located just southwest of New Orleans. Michael Iaconelli won his world title four years later about 80 miles south of the Big Easy near Venice.

""In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which smashed into the Louisiana coastline Aug. 29, those areas are now devastated, forever altered by massive tidal surge and wind. Altered, too, is the entire Gulf Coast region's sportfishing industry, which supports thousands of jobs and generates an economic impact measured in the billions of dollars for Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

"I don't think you'll see another bass in Venice for 20 years," said Louisiana BASS pro Greg Hackney."

Now, how do y'all like them apples?????????????????????

    i like apples

That was a big test, but i want to see how everything will be in a couple years after this oil spill. I have high hopes but NO ONE knows what kind of damage was done to eggs, oysters, coastline, even fish themselves for spawning. Alot of it is on the coast where saltwater is but gonna have to wait and see how well mother nature repairs this disaster

I have no fears at all. Mother nature will take care of her business like always. Just as long as dumb azzzzzzz man keeps out of her business!

I was thinking more in the line of government staying out.

Hopefully ol Hack knows that the Mississippi river starts further north than Belle Chasse. Venice will have fish as long as the river continues to flow. Hurricanes will knock it down, but not out.

As far as the oil spill. Most of that oil stayed along the outermost rozeau patches and away from the bass, so very little bass habitat was exposed. Crude oil is natural and mother nature will be able to clean herself. If this was a chemical spill that came from up river, the bass population would be in big trouble.

This ole Delta set an all time 15 bass weight record when Hite was here in 1999, and that was on the last week of July in 99 degree weather. I bet they set another 15 bass weight record this time. Not bad for a beat up place.

The 15-Bass Limit Classic weight record will be broken this year. I think it will take at least 60 pounds to win. A four pound average per fish isn't shabby.
