    Loosing interest in Toledo Bend

Only get to go to the Bend 1 or 2 weekends a year. I catch more fish down Blind River and Bigger fish in the Spillway. It is good to get away for the weekend but if you plan a trip and the weather screws up then you need to know the secret spots to find fish. It seems I waste my time going there, Anybody else feel this way?

Re: Loosing interest in Toledo Bend (90xpress)

Toledo is a place that you have to know where you are going during certain times of the year. If you don't focus on learning a specific area and figuring out how to catch fish in that area, the lake is so big that you will spend more time running and screwing off than actually catching fish. For instance, I hardly ever fish the Louisiana side and usually don't travel more than half a mile north of the bridge. Best advice I can give you is pick an area that has things that allow you to fish to your strengths and just learn it. And trust me, no matter how much you know and how often you fish Toledo, the weather can make for a horrible fishing trip.

I quit going years ago. I don't even go the top six anymore. Seems like you have to go for a week to get a few decent days. Would probably be a good place to retire as you would be there all the time and can pick your days around the weather etc.

Re: Loosing interest in Toledo Bend (RogerR)

I have fished the Bend all my life and have been humbled at times. You can go there on a can't miss kind of day and end the day without seeing a fish.

The Bend has been the training ground for some really big names in the fishing industry. A lot of the early success stories on the BASS circuit were guys who started out as guides there at the Bend.

I'm glad that I have been there enough to find some really good spots. A few of which I have passed on to some of the BBCr's with good success.

Just when you think you have something figured out, you find out why they call it fishing

I am looking for a place there on the Louisiana side. If anyone knows of a place that is for sale, I would be interested in looking and or going out to check it out.

I agree with you Roger, it is a long way just to get spanked by the weather. But, you still get to say you got to go to the Bend. I want to move there soon. Or at least when I retire.

That's what we do and we fish from sun up till sun down. We usually get a rain day or so and "almost" enjoy the break from cranking and winding.

Our next trip is for the elite series weekend on the bend. Dont be surprised if some of those guys dont catch. Especially if the weather turns.

After seeing your fish, you just want to thin out the competition.

I think you can say that about any Lake that you know nothing about! I mean come on, It was Windy and Cold this past weekend! Besides that sometimes you can go to your money spots on your local lake and not catch chit.

Re: Loosing interest in Toledo Bend (DLABORDE)

That lake is very unpredictable, but thats what keeps me going back.

For example, last spring for the TOBI. We hit 5 spots for practice day and had a 26# stringer including a 7, 6, a few 5s and all the 2-4# fish you wanted. The next 2 days, same pattern, same area, only produced a 16 and 14# stringer. You just never know. Its anybody's game any day of the week. One thing's for sure....you will not catch them sitting at the house.

Re: Loosing interest in Toledo Bend (Bada$$Bullet)

The bend is a lot different than fishing down south. The fish do the same things. But during certain times, the fish are deeper than i've ever fished in south la. I don't find big fish often, though i usually catch a few fish. I have a lot of fun during the spawn. Shallow fishing, usually, and also sight fishing. The challenge keeps me going back, plus the fact fish like Jason caught, could bite your lure at any time.
Usually late march and half of april i'be been having some good trips the past few years.
Don't let it discourage you Roger.
