    guys arrested in the CAT!!!

Men arrested for 72 Bass over limit!

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents cited two Jefferson parish men on Aug. 21 for allegedly possessing over the legal limit of bass in St. Charles Parish.

The agents were conducting surveillance near Lake Cataouatche in St. Charles Parish when they observed Elvin J. Rome, 53, of Marrero, and Richard Doucet, 52, of Westwego, rapidly catching fish. The agents continued surveillance until the subjects stopped fishing and followed them to a camp.

When the agents contacted the subjects, they discovered 92 black bass in their possession. The daily limit for largemouth bass is 10 per person.

The penalty for over the limit of black bass is a fine up to $350, or jail time up to 30 days, or both plus court costs. A court order restitution for the value of the illegally taken fish will also be filed with the case. The fish were seized and later donated to a local charity.

Agents involved in the investigation were Sgt. Ray Champagne, Senior Agent Tim Fox and Agent Terry Hicks.

If you ask me, the penalty isn't harsh enough.. they need to have their fishing rights taken away for a few years and have all of their fishing gear confiscated, kinda like they do with your car when you sell drugs.

I think the fine should be more like 350 per fish.

Confiscate the camp, boat, and refridgerator/freezer. Make it freakin severe then maybe this might not happen as much.

Who cares how many days they were there? They still broke the law.... the possession limit on the water is one times the bag limit, and on land is 2 times the bag limit.....so, even if you consider the camp as being on land, the possession limit is 20 per person, so they were still 52 over the limit.

No person shall have in his possession
more than twice the daily bag limit
of any kind of freshwater recreational
fish; except that only one day’s bag
limit of black bass may be in possession
    while on the water

If they were at a camp that they had to get to by water and had 80 Bass in their possesion, But had been there 4 days? They should still be legal huh?

It doesn't matter if you were there for 2 days or 2 months... even at your house, if you have more than 20 bass in your freezer for every person in your house that has a fishing license, then you are over the possession limit.

If I am wrong about this, someone please correct me.

Cory you are correct, but the warden may cut you some slack if your fish are cleaned, bagged and dated.they know that people stay at the camp for several days.

See.. I think that is part of the problem.. people don't understand what the terms bag limit and possession limit mean.

I don't know, as I am not a hunter, but if that's the way the law reads, then I would say so....

the laws are different in other states..

    from tpwd (Texas)

1 Daily bag is the quantity of a species of a wildlife resource that may be taken in one day.

2 Possession limit is twice the daily bag on game and nongame fish, except as provided in this guide.

3 Possession limit does not apply to wildlife resources in the possession of or stored by a person at their permanent residence.

Louisiana doesn't have the #3 in our rules...

I look at it as to what your bringing out of tha lake or tha woods IN YOUR POSSESION, when your leaving. If you could only have 20 bass in your freezer at one time, youd have to go fishin everytime you wanted to have a fish fry! Dont think it works that way. For example, say possession of DOVE, is 30. If i killed a limit from SAT-Monday, that would be 45. I cant have 45 doves in my freezer on Tuesday. I DONT THINK SO.

If WLF came to your house with a search warrant and looked in your freezer you better have a license for every one living there or they can ticket you if your over the poss limit, This is a fact. Now i have never seen this done that i know of unless they were busted in something big and they decided to check their home too

I think Dusty is right. After it is processed and froze, it is food and no longer game.
