    Fire Extenquisher

Is it mandatory to carry one in your boat?

Yes. And it has to be mounted. And you have to carry a throwable life preserver. I've been checked 4 times in the last few years.

    Re: Fire Extenquisher (SUSHII)

anytime you have a sealed compartment in the boat you must have a fire extenquisher. l have a 14ft boat with a built in bottom floor and ldwf told me if there is open space between floor and bottom of boat you must have one.

I didn't know it had to be mounted. I've been asked to show mine before and i just pulled it out one of the compartments where it stays...

Did you know you are supposed to have a horn or a whistle in most states? I also think it may be a Coast Guard Requirement.

    Re: Fire Extenquisher (pijman)

Also don't forget that FE's are rated with A,B,C. Forgot the rating but one is for wood, electrical and flammable liquides. So if you have all items aboard (which most do) you will need it to have all the ratings. I found that most stores only carry FE's with only two ratings. Just something else to think about.

    Re: Fire Extenquisher (SUSHII)

    FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
All mechanically propelled vessels less than 26 feet must carry one B-1 U.S. Coast Guard approved fire extinguisher if any one or more of the following conditions exist:

    Inboard engines.
Closed compartments and compartments under seats where portable fuel tanks may be stored.
Double bottoms not sealed to the hull or which are not completely filled with flotation materials.
    Closed living spaces.
Closed stowage compartments in which combustible or flammable materials are stored.
Permanently installed fuel tanks. Fuel tanks secured so they cannot be moved in case of fire or other emergency are considered permanently installed. There are no gallon capacity limits to determine if the tank is portable. If the weight of a fuel tank is such that persons on board cannot move it, the Coast Guard considers it permanently installed.
Mechanically propelled vessels 26 feet to less than 40 feet must carry two B-1 U.S. Coast Guard approved fire extinguishers.

It does say you have to have a signal device or flares or something like that

Do you have to have an whistle if your boat is equipped with a horn?
