The Wax
I've never been that far south down in the spillway before and I've heard several people say how difficult that area is to navigate. This is an area that I'd really like to learn so I guess my question is, is it really as hard to navigate as evryone says it is? and are there any secrets to navigating this area safely that you guys would like to share?

Re: The Wax (bigdog70810)
Used to fish there a lot years ago. Its not hard to navigate, its just hard to stay off the sand bars that change every year. Most canals are silted up pretty good at the mouths and some all the way. Like they said at least ask someone who has been lately about where you plan to run, or better yet try to go with them. If you must explore, run the cut banks and run trimmed down and slow so if you run aground you MAY be able to get off. If you hit them trimmed and running you may be there for a while. If its warm I still get out and walk the mouths of some canals to be sure there is enough water on the other side. If there is you will have to hook it up to pop in. There are a lot of cuts that dump out in main bayous and canals that you can easily get to and should be ok most of the year. Don't go alone and bring a tarp and bug spray. I don't go there often anymore since most of the areas i used to fish is posted now.
