I am interested in fishing the Calcasieu river north side of interstate 10, where do I find a boat ramp and what is the best way to fish it? Thanks Robert

I'm not going to be much help. The only time I fished it we used a canoe. That was a blast, though. Bream hiding in the laydowns get pretty thick. I've heard rumors that they have smallmouth in there, but I've never seen them.

I drove by and saw to the North of Interstate 10 all the cypress trees and it looked nice. I just dont know where any boat landings are..does anyone know where they might be?
I think there is one under the I-10 on the lake Charles side. You have to exit off before you get to the bridge. We used to boat riding out there along time ago and that was the landing we used so I assume it is still there. Also I believe if you take Hwy. 171 North towards Mossbluff there is a park that has a public landing - Sam Houston State Park. Do some more research cause i'm not real sure. Also looking at Google Earth looks like a public launch at the locks just north of I-10. Fishing wise, i can't help you cause i never been fishing there.

There is one by Sam Houston Jones State Park (at least I think that's the name), close to Moss Bluff, La. There is also one called White Oak Park. Coming from Lake Charles, take I-210 east and it's the first exit if I remember right. Head north and there are signs to point you to the ramp. Me and some friends have fished from White Oak Park south and caught some fish, but I'm still learning how to fish rivers myself. Hopefully this helps![]()
There are several ramps depending on where you want to put in at. There are good ramps at the Saltwater barrier, Sam Houston Park, Holbrook, Moss Bluff right past the Exxon gas station off 171, Ward 8 or White Oak park. I have never had real good luck in the winter time on the river, but spring through fall is good. Buzz Baits, Top water plugs, Spinner Baits, Bandit Cranks, and just about any worm will work. My best color soft plastic on that river is Plum Apple, and best hard bait color is Chart/Black combos. The key spots on the river from south to north are, Gulf state ditch, mouth of the west fork, cuts by the 171 bridge, watermelon bay, Dan's bay, the cuts by the high lines heading to Hecker to name a few. In the west fork, work the cuts, and pipes coming out of the marsh, 378 bridge area, mouth of the Houston River and near by canal. Also up the Houston river there is a water discharge pipe that can be good at times. If you catch the cuts and pipes running out you can limit out in one spot. The bad thing about Calcasieu, it's a hit or miss. If I don't get bit in my keys areas, I go home.![]()
Thanks guys for the info I am working at bridge city when it warms up some I'm going to bring my boat down and try to fish it some. I'll go and find those ramps one day when I get rained out! Thanks Robert
