    2007 225 optimax oil leak

I've just noticed I seem to have a slight oil leak from one engine, there is a couple of drips on the boat from when the engines had been tilted up, under the engine cover its not obvious where it coming from, the oil tank is the main suspect, a slight oily dampness on the outside of the tank but nothing 100% as the cause, I took the oil sensor out and this had a trace on it, under the oil tank on the wiring loom is a little oily so it must be coming from somewhere.

The black cap on the oil tank that the oil sensor slides into, is this glued into the tank, does it ever cause problems.

Do you know of any other culprits that might cause this that you have found in the past. don't want to replace the tank if its not the problem.

    Regards

Look very closely at the hoses coming from the compressor back to the upper and lower crank bearing fittings. There is a small filter in-line for both. The hose tends to split where inserted into the filters. --just a place or two more to look!

You may also find it helpful to try the following:

-Clean all surfaces well with detergent and water. Avoid getting water into electrical connectors and/or intakes.
-COMPLETELY dry all surfaces with compressed air.... allow to "sunbake" dry.
-Obtain some "Lotrimin Athlete's Foot Spray Powder".
-Spray the powder on and around all areas suspect of leakage... it will leave a light white powder.
-Run the engine for a short period of time (2-5 minutes). The leak should be more readily apparent, since it will wash away the powder.
-After repairing the leak.... rewash the area to remove powder, and allow to dry.

Caution: Any time there is an oil leak on your engine, there is an inherent risk of "lack of lubrication". If you're not 100% comfortable performing the above, you should consider seeking the "hands-on expertise" of an Authorized Mercury Dealer.
