    Fuel Additive Findings

Hey guys just wanted to document what fuel additives I have been running through my 03 225 OPTI. Initially I was running only quickleen in the recommended doses then a while back I had read the post of the guy having success running Quickleen, Seafoam, and Marine Stabil. I initially starting running the same in the following doses:

Quickleen - 1 oz per 6 gal of Gas
Seafoam - 2 oz per 6 gal of Gas
Marine Stabil - 1 oz per 10 gal of gas

I had noticed there was more carbon buildup on the inside of my prob hub after running a couple tankfulls with this mixture, so I decided to cut back on the seafoam. I ran a couple tankfulls with using the following:

Quickleen - 1 oz per 6 gal of Gas
Seafoam - 1 oz per 6 gal of Gas
Marine Stabil - 1 oz per 10 gal of gas

This seemed to work a little better for me. There was significantly less carbon buildup on the inside of my prop hub while running less seafoam. Now I am not recommending this for everyone on this board, or saying one mixture is better then the other, I just wanted to let everyone know about my findings.

    Re: Fuel Additive Findings (bigbasser54)

Had a issue with my 07 Opti 200 hesatating a few weeks ago to the point that it would not get on plane, so I added seafoam and 104. Next trip out she was back to normal. I use to add full can of seafoam to every tank but me thinks 104 might be better. Just my 2 cents..

    VAJohnnyG,
I would consult with Don @European Marine before you continue with the 104. I don't really know too much about it, but he might give you some reasons not to use it. I think one reason is the higher temperature at spark plug detonation. He will know for sure.

    </TD></TR></TABLE>

The above is my personal preference in regards to fuel treatments. Adjustments can be made to the Seafoam (based on your running habits and the amount of "soot" noted in the prop hub). Some of my customer use a little more... some a little less. All of them that run this have very clean plugs and direct injectors.

Keep in mind- when preping your boat for seasonal storage, you must INCREASE the quanitity of Marine Stabil to 1oz per 5 gallons, or 2oz per 10 gallons. See bottle labeling for details.

I'd caution against the 104 strongly. If your engine is designed to run on a particular octane fuel, running anything substantially higher in octane can result in carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. This is because higher octane fuels burn "slower and cooler".

Carbon deposits can eventually lead to hot spots on the piston crown... detonation, and potentially, severe piston failure.
