    Grand Isle

    Hey Gang

I have been invited by a family member to fish out of Grand Isle next week (7/10-7/13). This will be my first trip to the Gulf Coast to fish - how is the fishing right now and what tips can anyone give me. The boats and gear will be provided, just not sure what to expect.

    Re: Grand Isle (swanny297)

At this time of the year, live bait works the best, but if you're like me...I say live bait is for people who can't fish.

If I were going to Grand Isle at this time of the year, I would fish at night under the lights...much cooler and non-stop action.

If you're going to fish in the daylight hours, I would fish the beach (gulf side) and throw this color double rigged.

at night, throw this on a red head...

Saint308 makes some good saltwater plastics also.

I am headed down there this evening. I will let you know.

The guy I am fishing with has been catching a lot of nice trout. All on live bait. He had a limit over the weekend and I spoke to him this morning and he had 15 nice fish before the weather chased him to the marina.

    Re: Grand Isle (Groman)

We ended up with 36 nice trout yesterday. Mostly between 2 to 3 pounds. We caught them on topwater, grubs (both under a cork and tightlined), and of course on croakers on the bottom.

All fish were caught off of the beach and the bite quit around 11. We caught most of the fish between 9 and 11.

Thanks for the reports - I am getting fired up now, hopefully the weather will co-operate and I can come back with a cooler full of fish.

    Re: Grand Isle (swanny297)

Had a great trip - lots of fish, speckled trout, mangrove snapper, king mackerel, lemon fish, and sharks (none big enough to keep). This was my biggest fish, a heavy bull red, just over 16lbs.

Looking forward to the next trip.
