Is there a certain "run time" that the coils will go out if they are going to? I have about 230 hrs on my '08 and only hiccup I've had is a blown fuse from an injector going out. Keep hearing all the "coil" merc problems with the '08's and just wondering...

You're one of the "approximately 50%" that haven't had an issue!
Hours are irrelevant, except that your coils have been "well cycle tested".

hi don, since it looks like bout 50/50 on having coils go out at different times, would you have a idea of whats making them go out on 50 percent of the 250 proxs. seems to me if we get that problem fixed we can join the good 50 and stop having fishing trips ruined....thks jack

Unfortunately, there's not much that you (or I, for that matter) can do.
It's simply a "higher than acceptable failure rate". The good new is, from what I'm seeing, Quality Control has dramatically improved.

thks don, so i guess u are saying it has nothing with the motor blowing the coils just thousands of bad coils that go out on their own...Improving QC has nothing to do with thousands of ruined fishing trips and numerous trips to the dealer....like the guy in ohio checking lemon laws...i already have here in CA an the next blown coil qualifies my motor for the lemon law....and i will go after it as will not continue going to the dealer over and over caused by lousy QC at mercury....jack

eagle777, As my dealer folded I went to other local dealer, treated great, he contacted merk about my coil problem they are replacing all coils and computer. Just waiting on parts now, If problem continues ater this I will seek legal counsil. Hopefully no more coil problems

I had one at 225 hrs and one at 240 hrs. Now have 252 hrs and running ok.
thks shooter...will carry ur post with me to the dealer next time in as now i know i have number 3 gone...merc told my dealer they had to do one at a time and would not do all at once plus the puter....so thks for the info...i work with electronics not a mechanic but i do know when i have the same thing blowin at differnet places there is a common cause.....jack

Can we get mercury on a lemon law suit? I just want my motor fixed for good and not always have to hope that a coil doesn't go out in the middle of a tournament and end up cost me more money than they already have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
