It is hard to beat a culprit red shad worm on the bayous around lacombe & slidell.
White , chartreuse & white 1/4 oz spinnerbaits. Some toads for the grass in the summer.

myself on bayou lacombe i like a blk sapphire or watermelon red zoom speed craw or 14 and 1/8 ounce shad colored spinner baits. If you go to Guss's lok for some 4" ring worms black grape/with a powder blue tail. great in that whole area(the pearl, delacroix, lacombe, etc).

Remember to keep it very simple and don't let all the colors "wow" you......try and stick with your common colors, blacks, brown/green pumkins, june bug, reds/tequila, red bug, watermelon/red.........also like it was stated above, spinnerbaits in white, white/chart, shad colors, gold shiner & mouse seem good also..... Give these guys a few cases of beer and they will tell you where their fishing holes are.

I'm willing to bet SOMEBODY will take ya for a ride. I would invite you but a) I don't live too close and b) I don't catch any fish.

Ricky196 </TD></TR></TABLE> It make me look good with all those baits in my boat. Lord knows i can't catch anything but i sure could read a GPS. As soon as this great weather goes away and water goes down, unless you like them conditions. Actually, it'll be a month or so before everything get right in the river, IFit stops raining. When ever you get a chance. Let me know.

Re: just starting to bass fish (fishin couillon)

Well I went to wal-mart and picked me some shakey tail watermelon red worms and some u tail red shad baits from zoom. Then my wife went without my knowledge went and bought me a golden tiger, fire tiger, and white shad crank -n- dive baits. a red shadow, golden tiger rattle vibe and a pop-n-slash yellow eye perch. i guess i have a very small assortment now to get started with and i'm sure i'll pick up a few more things as time goes on. one other thing any special type of hooks i should be using

I'll go out on a limb here, but get some spinner baits, white/chart... they are great year round baits..

Re: just starting to bass fish (evilchampion)

4 to 5 inch worm I go with a 1/0 Gamakatsu EWG (extra wide gap).

    6 to 8 inch, 2/0 or 3.0 EWG

Haven't found any reason to use a 4/0 or 5/0 except on bulke creature baits with many appendages such as big brush hogs or during flipping situations when the fish for the fish for the most part take the bait on the initial fall.

I would also add a 5 inch senko type bait in a natural watermelon pepper ot green pumpkin color, to what the guys from above said to get. Easy to fish for the beginner and very effective nearly everywhere.
