Can someone shed light on Spillway water levels?

I know the Miss. river stage is a factor but what is high and what is low?
I also know Atchaf. river stage matters but I don't know what is high or low for that stage either. Any help would be appriciated.

I just hate to waste a trip going fishing and the water be to high to get to the fish.

Rule of thumb is when the Atchaf. at Morgan city is around the 3ft range and falling, it's a pretty good time to go. 4ft is pretty high. 1 ft is pretty low. The good anglers can catchem all the time, though! Also have been told when the water has been high and starts to fall, to fish the northern sections (sorrel and further N) first as the water will drop there faster than in Pigeon-south.

Thanks for the information seems like MC being at 4.5' is pretty high though.

The Mississippi has some to do with it, but only what they allow it to...it depends on how much water they run through the locks...most years, that is very little....

rain water can affect it, but it will usually go out pretty quick....the Atchafalaya is what really determines how high the spillway is...and it is plenty high now....crawfish are starting to run....and them things are way prettier than I expected they would be this early...

Usually the dead end canals with high banks are really good when the water gets high cause it backs into there, and not flows through it, so they tend to be more stable...tensas....all I will say....
