Gents,
I am hearing more and more reports about the Des Allmands bass fishing. Maybe I really never listened. I just bought the areial map showing the lake. Few questions:
1) What areas hold bass?
2) Can the lake be "run" or is it shallow"
3) Any other shallow areas I should know about?
4) There is a series of deadends off of Bayou Des Allemends up from Salvador....is that any good?
5) Area ramps?

Des Allemands is a great fishery. I have been fishing the area for quite a few years. The biggest bass I ever had my hands on, 7.3#, came from Des Allemands....Dad caught it on a black buzzbait in '96.....I had to lip it and bring it in the boat. My biggest in the marsh was caught there also...6.4 on a speedcraw...March '06.
The canals to the south (Hwy 90-Lake Salvador) are good at this time of the year. Jigs and craws catch fish in the spring. Flip the deep banks and throw spinnerbaits on the shallow banks.
Mud Lake is right past the power lines headed south. Stay in the middle of the lake and run across. There are plenty of old duck blinds in there. I'm not sure if the grass has come back, but it had died off for a while in the canals on the south end.
If you run north, there is a series of canals on the right off of Bayou Des Allemands...called the Humble canals. They are full of structure. Also in Lake des Allemands...on the right is a few more canals. All hold fish in the spring. Summer time is mostly main lake fishing....flipping cypress trees...etc.
This area doesn't have as many canals as Bayou Black, so they all are pressured in the spring time.
You can launch under the HWY 90 bridge on the east side, or at Sommes on the west side, about 1/4 mile from the bridge.
