    Another question for ya Don...

Ok... I got my 01 225Opti back together and am trying to fire it up. Injectors have been cleaned and flow checked, got a new filter in it. The problem is this...when cranking it she will be firing off until I let off the key to disengage the starter and then she falls flat on her face. Occasionaly she will fire two or more times without the starter running but not often. I think I may know whats causing this but need a second opinion from an expert.

    Thanks,

    1. Check air and fuel pressures! This is CRITICAL.... you should have 80 psi air (port side rail) and 90 psi fuel (stb side rail). Best checked with a "liquid-filled, dual pressure gauge".

    2. Lanyard switch "on"???

    3. Fuel pumps running when key turned on?

    4. FUEL SYSTEM PRIMED WITH FUEL PRIOR TO ATTEMPTING TO START?

Will check the pressures everything else checks out ok. I'm also thinking maybe bad gas, I think the gas is about 6 to 8 months old and just need to get rid of it. I will try with another gas tank just to make sure. Will update when I get back from Nebraska (Monday).

    Thanks,

Could also be a sheared flywheel key!

Ok I have siphoned out the bad gas and replaced with 87octane with sea foam and stabil. Got motor to fire up and stay running at higher rpms..say 2200. I tried to bring the idle down and can get it to about 1500 and sounds like she is struggling to stay running. Anything below 1500 and she dies.. I took her to the shop and having the air and fuel pressures checked as well as checking and removing old codes. Should have it back in a couple days and hopefully I will know whats going on with it..

    Thanks,

Just a guess.... but I wouldn't be surprised to hear "low air pressure" and/or fouled spark plugs.

This stated problem is worded a little different from the original post.

Not the ING. switch. Sometimes the ING. switch will go bad just in the run position and not the start position.

    Sorry to hear that!

Let me know if there's anything else I can assist with.....

BTW: If you've given even a LITTLE thought to repowering, you might want to look at this:
