    Don, What is this?

I installed a power pole over the past weekend and had to remove the cowl and take the weight of the motor off of the transom (using a lift ring) to install the power pole adapter bracket between the motor and the jackplate. When I put the cowl back on the motor and noticed this on the floor. What is it and where does it go? The motor is a 2005 Mercury 225 Optimax

Thanks SSIMAPLA & Don - Exactly correct. I wish I had a prize for you to win, I hope a "Thank You" works. I knew I'd get the answer here.

Re: Don, What is this? (drgrammer)

    Don and SSImpala,
Just a followup to this post. My latches keep popping open and I have tried everything to adjust them (moved the height of the rollers on the hood, flipped the latches in the mid section to use the unworn side, etc...) with no success. During my rework, I didn't see anything that resembled the item pictured.

Should I have these on my 2002 Opti 200? If so, where exactly would they be? If not, any other suggestions? Its really a pain to have to click one or the other shut after every hard run.

    Please help.

The 2002 200 opti should utilize those as well! Usually raising the roller on the inside rear of the upper cowling will tighten up the latches. Also tighten the bolt retaining the latch itself! 10mm.

The piece pictured above sits between the upper hood latch itself, and the socket in the lower cowling (fitted to the hood side).
