    follow up:pro xs surging/bucking, redline,don,largemouthlou,flippin57 (solved)

one day i am going to go to dons shop, just to steal the crystal ball he has there. he said the problem was 99% in the vst. either junk in it, or fuel pump going bad. well i am not an outboard mechanic, but have worked autos for 13yrs (dad was a car dealer)rip. so i finnally got up the nerve to take the vst off, hoping that springs and stuff didnt fly out everywhere when i removed the top. anyway, i found some mercury tubing shards inside but very very miniscual. i used compressed air to blow out the corners and cleaned the fuel pump filters by removing them with a small pick. i remember that don had said to check every place in that vst. well as i was going to put it back together i seen how the vst fills up. the fuel runs inside a tube and drops in above the float. when i took the float off this is what i blew out of the tube with the compressed air. (i hope this pic works.)

ok before someone makes a good joke, the nine volt battery is in the pic just for size comparison, to give an idea of how small this plastic chip was. however it was clogging approx 2/3rds of the hole diameter.

was actually a chip off of the original installed fuel/water filter. i just tossed the old one when i screwed it out, and i looked in the chamber but didnt see anything. somehow this floated into the tubing of the float vst chamber. from now on, i will always drain the fuel chamber before unscrewing the filter. however owners manual says it might not drain until you unscrew it some, as was my case.
