Actually Ryan is pretty close to being right. Crazy as it sounds the internet has put a damper on waterfowl hunting as it has created too many experts and too many people post pictures or other stuff giving away locations, making it easier for the lazy people to find birds at times. We've had an outstanding season so far, I've just kept the pictures to a minimum. Once we shut down and I get some time, I'll upload some of the better ones. Later this spring you'll be able to watch a couple of our hunts once the video is released...got some great footage last weekend with a pretty well-known guy in the goose calling/hunting world.

I guess I never gave any thought to someone trying to muscle in on your goose hunting. I guess there's claim jumpers everywhere and in every sport. Will look forward to hearing more about your successes.

You should check out the duck hunting forums; everyone is very tight lipped and for good reason. Sucks to make long drives to scout/hunt to shoot birds, then one guy makes a post with pic's of his successful hunt and and next thing you know the place is over run with hunters.

I had a very medicore duck season, the pressure around KC hunting grounds is unreal compared to what I experienced in college in Manhattan... Thinking of just switching over to turkey/deer hunting as I have a connection to a lot of private land for that.

    /agree with Tim 100%!.

When I post pictures, I ensure that there is nothing in the background that could give a way location. In fact, if i am anywhere close to another area that ISNT holding birds, I go there for the pictures.

Had a guy ask me earlier in the year to hunt with me via a PM in the forums, and told him only way I would take him is if he was blindfolded and checked for GPS units. I was serious.

He got a little irritated and needless to say he didn't go, but I have been burned by taking a person hunting. There isn't nothing worse then taking someone hunting to an area you scouted then going a few days later and he is sitting on the spot with a bunch of his friends, saying "seats taken....". This happened to me this year.

If you take someone hunting in one of your holes, you better know em good or you should expect them to hunt that hole with others and others and others; and all of those others will bring others and others and others.

I spend way too much money scouting spots and putting in the time to find the ducks to have a good hunt, for someone to be sitting on it.

Wish things were different but that's the way I have seen it.

    Re: Tim S (Roger Matthews)

The worst thing that I think has happend to me and another guy I hunt and fish with is when we've taken people (even family) pheasant hunting with us the last few years is they go back and get caught by the land owner and say we gave them permission to be hunting there which is a lie. I don't have a problem if they go back and get permission from the land owner but they never even try. Almost 75% I can go ask someone I've never met and they will let me hunt, now I may not be able to hunt opening weekend of pheasant season and sometimes I get told I can't hunt tell January which is better then nothing. Most people will let you hunt if you just ask, I can't figure out why they can't ask. I spend a lot of time scouting whether I'm hunting deer, pheasants, whatever it be. I'm to the point I'm willing to start leasing ground for two reasons, if I catch you on ground I have leased the law is going to be involve and I'm pressing charges, second reason is its too damn hard to find ground to hunt or fish on that five hundred other people are there whether or not they have permission. It's been my experience people think twice before hunting ground that has leased hunting signs up.

Happens all the time around here as well. I had a smoker duck spot weekend before last and somebody had already found it and asked permission after we already had full rights. Ticked me off.

had a great hunt though...wont disclose the area however

Isn't the internet and T.V. great? Used to be a guy would find a hunting place with a tank of gas, a cold drink, a pair of binoculars and a map. Now he just logs onto the internet or watches his favorite waterfowl hunting show and wala, instant place to hunt.

I used to log a couple or three thousand miles a season on my trucks just scouting. Most people these days would cringe at the fuel and miles I would log on a truck during the waterfowl season. But that was in my younger years. Now I just like to get out and enjoy the outdoors and if I happen to shoot something then thats great, if not it was still a great day. I don't get too excited about someone hunting my spots anymore. I guess I have given in to the lazy hunters. Over the years I've lost alot of good spots to houses, business, road/highways and other hunters. Gotta take the good with the bad and not get too excited about it. I don't post pics much anymore either but mostly because I just don't kill the birds I use too.

I hear ya Jack. That river spot I took you to....part of it is being cut out and they are either making room for electrical lines or they are going to build up to it. Either way, it sucks because all the trees were cut out. I noticed it on Wed morning.

I have started to be less concerned with kill numbers and more concerned with being outdoors with good friends and family. Best hunt of the year for me was when Talon went. We never shouldered a gun, but it was the best one for sure.
