running the eng. on the hose

1997 johnson oceanrunner. Is it ok to run the eng. in the driveway with the hose hooked up to the connector located behind the telltale?I am sure it is but just wanted to check before I winterize with the fogging oil.

If you want to burn up the water pump in the lower unit...then it's ok. No, really, you need to hook it to the muffs if you're gonna run it on the hose.

To my best knowledge the hook up up top is to Flush the cooling system with the motor NOT running. I will be corrected if I am wrong

On the motors with flushing ports, you can run the motor at IDLE only for winterizing, check outs, etc. This is mentioned in the owners manuals.

Sorry, I stand corrected, I was unaware that the flushing ports were for running the engine. I guess it backflushes the water pump impeller to keep it cooled and lubricated?

    Re: (prawntrap)

My manual states that you can in fact run it on the flush port as well. I was advised by the MORs (masters of reality) running this board that it would still not be advisable. Muff it.
