Don follow up on compressor failure

I picked up my boat after have the compressor replaced under warrenty, I had them change the inline filters like you suggested and they did install a new belt. I think I remember that you told me that the belt was directional and it had to be installed so you can read the writing is this correct? The belt was installed with the writing upside down so I turned it over, was I supposed to have done this? Also is there any break in period on the new compressor?
    Thanks
    David

Re: Don follow up on compressor failure (haleconst)

The actual orientation of the belt isn't really critical... what IS critical, is that it always run "in the same direction", and remain in the same orientation it was installed.

I prefer to be able to read the part number when standing up.

Flipping the belt over (if it's been run for any length of time), can lead to premature belt failure. Since yours was just installed, you should be fine.

Technically, yes, there should be a "reasonable" break-in on the compressor. It is indeed a "single piston engine". In the real world- run it "reasonably" (under 5400 RPM) for an hour or so, and you'll be fine.
