i'm going to be switching from a Pro XS to an ETEC next year. does the standard (magnum?) etec 225HO gearcase have low water pickups?
will i be able to run an etec 2 1/2" below pad and still maintain H2O pressure?

Smalljawbasser: Wow! That's going to raise one's curiosity as to why you're jumping from the Merc Pro XS to the E-TEC. Can you enlighten us?
As to you're question, I ran my Ficht as high as 2.75" below my pad on my Cobra 201. I had high water pressure thoughout, however, the performance suffered on this particular hull.
I'm sure you'll get some more feedback on this one, but I believe the Lightning issues are resolved. What do you guys think?

Hey smalljaw,
I think you will find that a 225 HO does not come with a magnum gear case it will come with a Lightning case. Both of these gear cases come with standard water intakes, not low water.
I do not know when the MAG-II gear case will be out but I hear it will be better than both cases that are currently available. Maybe in a couple of weeks.
Good luck.
well, to be honest, i am switching because that's where my bread is buttered.![]()
at this point, i am really glad i've never been a "chest thumping my motor is the best" guy! lol
i've always liked them all, and still think that all 3 brands are pretty dang good motors. and the etec certainly seems to be a good motor so far. the PRO XS was/is a very good motor, and I have no complaints.
