Elk City State Park

The wife wants to run/walk the 5K at Neewollah in Indepedence Ks on Oct 23.
I e-mailed the SP to ask if reservations would be needed for the nights of 21-22. They replied it would be a good idea since the park is full or near full on wed the 27th or thur the 28th, before the Grand Parade.
Anyone there in SE Kansas have any ideas, Should I reserve or not.
OH YEAH! I always get draged along, by my leash on these outings.

I would make the reservation. The Neewollah brings in a lot of people from all over the 4 states area. The Elk City cammpgrounds are very nice and would hate to make the trip and find out it is ful!!

Another choice if Elk is full Big Hill lake is about 20 miles from INDY. You would want to stay on the east side of the lake, Cherryvale or Mound valley camp grounds.

Thanks, I looked at both campgrounds. That may work better since I have a Golden Age card.
But I think something must be wrong on the reservation site. Every reservable campsite, in both campgrounds, show NOT AVAILABLE from NOW thur JAN 2011 Or is SE Kansas the new Snowbird roost?
