    Another Don question or 2

Or a couple more if you have time please.

1 I have a Smart Craft system running 3.04 software, so far so good, does this type of system tell me that I'm still in breakin period? I can't see it on the monitor, nor can I find it if I run through the mode settings.

2 I have a 225 Optimax that runs past 5750RPM's. I've already raised the motor to help with chine walk, no jack plate don't want one nor do I need one, I hope .
The question is, could I reduce the RPM's by putting a 26pitch prop on instead of the 25 I'm currently running. Hole shot is great now 3200RPM's and about 3seconds I'm out and running. Boat is loaded and my partner weights about 300 to make up for my 140 Any help or suggestions you can provide would be appreciated.

If your Optimax is a "standard" 225 model, you will likely NOT see any reporting for "breakin mode" on your System Monitor. This feature is being added, starting with models in 2007, as new calibrations are released. It's already on all ProXS engines.

As for your RPM/Prop question, increasing pitch by one pitch point (25 to 26) would indeed lower your RPM's. Expect 150-200 RPM decrease at WOT, depending on what prop brand/model you're running. On your engine mounting height... just make sure that you're able to maintain a MINIMUM of 15 psi water pressure (I prefer to see it at, or near 20).

The smart gauge is a 2009 model but is square and quite small.

The prop is a Tempest 25 and the 26 would be also. Would you suggest a pressure gauge permanently mounted in the dash. I find having to scroll through the readings while running is distracting not to mention dangerous. Is such a gauge available to be piggyback from the rest of the system?

Mercury makes a "tee" kit that can be installed at the motor, allowing you to run an "analog" water pressure gauge.

You can also get a System Link gauge (small size) that will "piggy back" into the harness for the System Monitor. This would be a Plug and Play installation- and would not require additional rigging (System Link Gauges pull data off the same harness that the System Monitor uses).

    As always thank you!

Can I order such a gauge from you directly? I would be interested in the System Link water pressure gauge. Is there the capability to just plug it into the "end" of the wiring?

Sure is! There is a 3-wire (plat) plug on your current Blue data cable that says (or should say) "System Link". This is where system link gauges are connected... and pickup their data. Any number of system link gauges can be connected in a "daisy chain formation" from this plug. Plug to gauge one... one to two, two to three, and so on.

Be glad to get you one- give me a holler via phone sometime (or by email... email address is in my profile if you click on "EuropeanAM" to the left of this post.
