Was asked to pass this along - I think all Kansas Boaters are going to add a great big thank you to Kent Craft!
Subject: Watercraft Tax Legislation up date
Don & Larry:
As you both know, during the interim joint committee on taxation this past summer, I presented arguments supporting HCR 5015 which was the first resolution designed to change the method used by Kansas to access watercraft for tax purposes. That resolution was passed favorably out of the interim committee to the Senate Assessment and Taxation Committee and retitled SCR 1602.
This morning I spoke to the Senate Assessment & Taxation Committee in-behalf of SCR 1602. Without any arguments, the Committee passed the resolution on to the floor of the Senate for debate. It should hit the floor next week. The most interesting question I was asked was if the tax was reduced, was I going to buy a new boat. Ha!
Each of you have your club Presidents on a bulk email list. I would ask you to email the Presidents and ask them to email their local or all State Senators telling them that their membership is in favor of reducing the high personal property tax on watercraft and would like for them to vote in favor of HCR 1602. The more positive calls the Senators receive, the better off we will be.
Any questions, let me know.
Thanks,
Kent Craft
