We are the same way in Salina. Some have power and others don't.

My neibors have power and I don't

I guess the whole city of Abilene is without power

    Dennis

Keep the fire buring, it will warm up in a few months...

Really if there is anything i can do let me know, I have a 5000watt generator just sitting in the garage, if you need it let me know.

It's not enough to power your house, but it will charge up the flashlights, run the the frig and a TV.

I suggest you make sure that you hook the generator up correctly. As in, don't use a double male end cord.

as long as you cut main power from supply you could be ok......dont want to electricute a lineman working on your system on a backfed system.................other than that you can have an inverter for it.

msot peeps will just run extension cords into house as needed for the "needed" appliaced................sure as heck arnt going to have 240 for a stove but buying one of them 120v counter top portable burners works well.......that or just fire up the grill and Eat Meat for few days

That's big enough to run the furnace assuming you have gas heat. That generator will do quite a bit. Furnace fan, refridge, freezer, TV, and a light. Hope you find you don't need it tonight cuz the power's back on. Good luck!

Re: Man, talking about taking electricity for granted.......... (OzarkBassin)

I work for an electrical company in Manhattan and all day was running around trying to help people out. We were disconnecting the main power to the furnace and installed an outlet then hooked up a whip to the furnace so they could run the furnace of the generator. That way when power does come back the just plug the furnace into the outlet. Lots of damage and cold weather. Luckily I never lost power at my place and hopefully it stays that way.
