    Smartcraft Fuel Gauge

Thought I finally knew the reason my Smartcraft Fuel Link gauge would never work. It says "Fuel 2" on it, and I just never noticed that before. I thought the fix would be simple....connect my sending unit wire to the blue/wh stripe instead of the pink/wh stripe, disable tank 1, enable tank 2, change it to fuel tank, and program the gallons in it. My gas tank is full right now. What happens is it will not store the size of tank I have. I do tell it the tank is full but it refuses to let me store the tank size. Always shows 0.0 when I go back to it. I have done many "master resets" on my tach and speedo. but that is not the answer. I have tried calling tank 1 a 2 gal oil tank (no sensor hooked up) and tank 2 my fuel tank, and I have now seen the link gauge needle go to "full", but it thinks, for some reason, it has 136 gallons in it (but fuel 2 still still shows 0.0 capacity).

Fuel 1 programming will record my correct tank size and give good readings in the Speedo bar gauge when hooked up to the pink/wh strip wire. That is where I have it now.

I have no idea why my programming in the Tach will not let me record tank size for tank 2. I think it would work right if I could get it to record that.

Right now, I think I am ready to buy a new fuel gauge that will work as fuel 1.

Mercury 2.5xs, system sees it as "25".

Any ideas or comments welcome. Thanks

    Re: Smartcraft Fuel Gauge (rivi31)

Optimax engine questions are answered in the forums above, and below this one.

When you pose your question over there, be sure to provide your Engine Serial Number, AND the Gauge Version you have (version number that flashes up on the screen as you turn the key on).

Don, since my engine is a 2.5 high performance engine, I thought I had put it in the right forum. Are you saying I should list this in the standard Mercury forum or the 3 liter high performance forum?

No problem, what ever forum you suggest. Can I copy and paste to move?

    Re: Smartcraft Fuel Gauge (rivi31)

The only year to my knowledge that my engine was made was 2005. It is model number 1922471DH, serial number OT998740. The smartcraft versions are different in the tach and speedo. Tach = V1.58 Speedo = V3.03

You have SEVERALLY mismatched instruments, and it's HIGHLY LIKELY that you may not overcome this problem until you obtain a MATCHED SET.

Are the backs of BOTH INSTRUMENTS BLUE?

Sorry about delay in answering. Been fishing.

Yes, the backs of both tach and speedo are blue. Didn't know about compatibility issues........thought blue was post 2001 and that was all that was necessary. I have another blue backed tach that I will put in and check the version.

    Re: Smartcraft Fuel Gauge (rivi31)

Don, I was lucky. (I think). The extra Tach I had was a version 3.03.......just like the speedometer. I had bought it along with some other parts a few years ago and never had a reason to check it out.

I hooked my tank sensor to fuel 2 and reprogramed my tach and it is now holding the gallons correctly. I believe my link gauge is finally working right, but will know for sure after my fishing trip next week.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
