Not much of a pond fisherman so I will probably exhibit my ignorance, but WTH... Here goes.
I would expect that the ponds are shallow and warm pretty quick. I would take a bait that you could cover water with that could be worked slow like a Heavycover Spinnerbait. Also take your favorite plastic incase they want something slow (Senko). Of note, Roger from Arkansas fished a pond there a couple of days ago and threw a swimbait and caught a monster sack. http://www.bbcboards.net...70435
Agree with Bob, topwater mabe, then Senko's, spider jigs etc !
small lake temps in topeka are right at 48 degrees as of wednesday...so i would think ponds would be near 55 now...throw spinnerbaits in chartruese color, black/blue jigs with trailers and buzzbaits...even rattle traps would be great!

As a long time pond fisher here is what I would take.
Baby 1-
Senko
MEPPS AGLIA (size 3 and 4)
These three will cover all the bases. I would also texas rig a worm if these don't work but I don't really think that will be the case.

I have won more pond hopping tournaments on those 3 lures than you can shake an Ugly Stick at.

In the case of our small lake in Olathe, the north side of the lake warms up wayyyy quicker than the south side, thus better fishing exists on the north side of the lake this time of year![]()

Give that man a cigar. Those are some of the fish catchinest lures you can use on a pond, esp. a baby one minus. A chartreuse pepper or more subdued hue lizard texas rigged(depending on water clarity) has been good to me on a pond along with a blue fleck texas rigged worm. Caught my share on a black and blue jig, too. Just my .02.
Thanks guys the sums up eveything I had packed anyway, I'll let ya'll know what happens

Are there really pond hopping tournaments in SE Kansas?![]()
Used to fish quite a few of them actually. They weren't anything great big but there was usually 20 - 30 teams scouring the area. Was a lot of fun. We fished dawn to dusk.

Humboldt mostly. They were usually FFA sponsored events but did a couple others but they were all between Howard and Humboldt.
That area is some of the best anywhere for pond fishing IMO. Some of my best memories from there. Every year a friend of mine, Kevin Beeman, and I hit ponds for a weekend and catch an absolute ton of fish. He is in the Air Force and only gets back about once a year and alot of these ponds aren't fished but once a year so it is a great time.
we use to do a bunch of them,, we did one for the fire dept once,, raising money for there image camera.. had 36 teams, took 27 and change to win.. that's 6 fish.. man we used to have a ball fishing them... guess i need to get our youth bass club to put one on for a fund raiser...![]()
I know that B&W has had a couple that had about the same turnout. They are a blast and offer up some big weights. Problem we had is the number of cheaters catching their fish a week earlier and feeding them minnows in a stock tank until Tday. Guys like that need to be found in a ditch.![]()
we always had a couple of teams follow us and then go back and fish our ponds... i always took my fish back to whee i caught them.. i guess if thats the way they had to win , they had to live with themselfs![]()
