    Woman in the Club

Leavenworth Bass Club had it's monthly meeting last night and among three new members was the club's first female member to be voted in. Personally I think it's good for the sport and the club. I did hear that some people may be uncomfortable fishing with a woman. I wouldn't have any problem fishing with a member of the opposite sex. Anyone have any heartburn with it? Of note: this lady is the wife of a club member and has a desire to be an outdoors type person from what I understand.

The only issue I see is you can't drink any coffee. Makes the call of nature a little uncomfortable. Of course I fished with a female tournament director that had me run the trolling motor and she swung off the outboard and did her business. Then the only one uncomfortable was me

We had a female in the club a few years back and she was married to a new member, also. Everybody was fine with it. You did have to go to shore if she requested a bathroom call. The real problem was with the husband. He was basically a cheater and in addition would take guys spots that they showed them and then be perched on them in the tournament when he promised not to fish them. We basically kicked him out of the club. We have had a handful of cheaters over 30 some years and all were booted from the club.

No probs with a woman, though. She threw a roadrunner off the back of the boat and actually caught some fish. Only bad part was when she would hang up behind the boat when you were running a bank or the like. That's normal with anybody new though, just takes a little coaching.

I wouldn't have a problem with it at all. I think the sport of hunting and fishing needs more women in it.

Fortunately the sport of fishing can be dominated by a female just as easy as a male and thats what makes it great. Although it has not happened yet but I would bet the day is coming when a woman steps up and starts taking home the dough in one of the tours.

Both my daughters fish and will be starting to hunt this fall. My oldest will probably be in a club in a few years.

I agree with all - it's a good thing. She is very active in hunting and I know she really enjoys fishing. I've told her I have no problem having her fish in my boat. The bathroom mechanics can be worked out. She said she'll only fish the buddy events, not the draw tournaments so the members that are uncomfortable won't be "forced" to fish with her.

    (Did I say "members") ???

last year, I had a 16 year old German exchange student fish in my boat at Mozingo at a Ft Leavenworth Rod & Gun Club tournament. We made a couple of pit stops at the parks where there were restrooms. Cost me maybe 10 minutes of fishing time - no big deal at all.

Now if we could just get Krissy to sign up too ......................

Me neither. I don't see any harm in it. But you will always have a neanderthal somewhere in a club that will throw a hissy fit

Re: Woman in the Club (dport)

We had a woman in the club a couple years back as well. She's married to a club member as well. She fished the 1st WBT "pretourney" as well. No issues I can see.

Our club is pretty relaxed on the whole bathroom deal. If you need to go, lets beach the boat. Dig your cat hole and take care of business. I always have TP under the drivers seat.

I think some clubs are funny. They take their 10 boat tourney and treat it like the Elite series.

Yep, he was a real tool. First time I met him, he said he was Paul Elias' best buddy and that the only reason he hadn't won the club yet was because he just started fishing it.

    Stein

I love taking my wife out fishing. She usually outfishes me. My excuse is she usually has me busy retying or getting her unsnagged. Don't matter to me. She has fun and sees how much I enjoy it. Makes it alot easier for me to leave for a week at a time to fish.
