I have a 1988 Johnson 200 GT (J200STLCCM). Yesterday I had the cowl off and I noticed that one of the magnets under the flywheel was broke and hanging down a little bit. I used the search function and found that there is a magnet replacement kit that I can buy but im not sure if should just try to find a used replacement flywheel instead. If I'm looking for a replacement what years and models are compatible with mine?
boats.net will give you a where used function if you click on the part. You need to find the part number for the flywheel in the IPC and then click on that part in the list. It will show you what model years are compatible. Yes you can purchase a kit for flywheel magnet replacement.
Thanks for the reply ChampioNman. I think I might try the Magnet replacement. It sounds like I first need to pull the flywheel then pull the magnets and bead blast all the rust of the under side of where the magnets attatch. Epoxy the magnets back as close to where they were as I can. Are there any other tips or things I need to watch for?
