Question for Rusty on a 2005 225HO DI

About four weeks ago I was fishing and ran about 4 miles after I launched the
boat. Shut down and fished for about 45 minutes. Cranked the motor up and
ran about a quarter of a mile and the engine acted like it ran out of fuel. Pump
the bulb the motor started idle fine and when a hit the hot foot it died again. I repeated that same procedure two more time before it took off and ran. I switch
tanks even with the tank I was running on showed a quarter of a tank. It never did
it again that day or the next day. I have had the boat on the water about six times
since and it had never died. I thought maybe my fuel gage was wrong or maybe
the fuel pick-up tube may have been a little short on that tank. This weekend I was on the water and guess what it died this time on the opposite tank than before. I repeated the same steps as before and it finally took off and ran. The bulb is not rock hard in either of the cases, but you can feel fuel go through it when you pump it. The motor runs strong and idles good, but it seems to me that it idles a little fast, about 750 to 800 rpms. the nearest dealer is about 2 hour from here and I was wondering if there was something I could check.

Re: Question for Rusty on a 2005 225HO DI (MOCAT)

I would replace the anti siphon valves on both fuel tanks with BRP 3/8 valves.

When a DI motor dies from lack of fuel it takes a few minutes to bleed the air out of the fuel system and this could be the cause of the dying after it ran out of fuel.

The primer bulb will not be firm after the motor has been run, it will take (most times) a couple of primes to make it firm again.

Re: Question for Rusty on a 2005 225HO DI (RUSTY63)

The tanks on my 520 are under the seat. Would these valves be on the
tank or in the fuel lines coming from the tanks? The Evinrude and the Ranger
are only a few months old. Would this be a BRP warranty or a Ranger Warranty?
I have a championship this weekend on Truman. If I can not get these replaced
by this weekend will it leave me stranded or can I just perform the same procedure that I did in the past if it dies again. Is this a common problem? This is my first Evinrude I have always owned a Mercury. Thanks Rusty!!!!!!!!!!

They are on the fuel tanks where the outlet hose attaches to the tank, this would be a Ranger issue.

This can be checked with a vacuum guage in line to see what the vacuum is at idle.

You could do the same thing if this problem arises until you can get it fixed but don't wait any longer than you have to.
