I like guns. Have had a few. Shoot as much as I can in the feild and even though I may not duck/goose/pheasant/pigeon or whatever hunt as much as others I can offer my opinion on them. An for right now I will only mention Seni-Autos and not break loaders.
For years I have been a Winchester/Remington guy, as my forefathers were for the last century. This country has produced some of the best guns in the world. But things have really changed in the past 25 years. Other countries have been manufacturing guns that are just as good or if not better than most of the american made models plus we have opened ourself for more import of these goods. Since the 80's there have been more and more choices in the Sporting Bird world then ever before. While some companies may offer "more for your money", others are just about how well it works. with that said I think that any gun you buy today is better than most of the guns of old. I still like shooting Winchesters of the 50's and 60's because thats what they used to use, and they still seemed to put food on the table, the only thing with that is you had to be a better shot back then. Today there are soo many enhancement for the shooters that it take a little less skill then it did 50 years ago. improved machining methods, better chokes, gas and enertia systems, recoil protection and a few more things that are specific to each gun maker.
With as many Top gun makes in the world today the choices make it harder and harder for someone to choice. We have the internet to help us and people that have used most of the guns that we look at and can apply them more readily then some of us who might work more hours or have other obligations that might keep us from shooting as much as others. we are all differnt and all lead different lifestyles. Sometimes we forget that and each of us is going to make decisions based on what is in our own interests and usage.
When I see discussions that involve things like shotguns I have to laugh. Because there is always going to be someone who thinks that whatever they bought is the best out there. And why shouldnt you beleive that. Because it is the best thing that you could buy whether it be because of money, or time spent in feild, or just researching all possible options till you were exausted and simple just went out and got one.
With all that I have posted I will now tell you what I think and offer you some top choices.
Fabarm(Fabbrica Bresciana Armi) today has got to be one of the best(not the best but 1 of several) shotguns in the world today. Most people do not know much about them(Italian made) but they have been produced for the last half century and have been improved on every time. They have been produced mainly for tactical use but have expanded into the Sporting world. Heckler & Koch have made some of the finest guns known and seem to eco that into this particular line of shotguns. Go ahead and internet it to find out.
I would also recommend the Beretta(another italian made). Still a great gun and at a decent price. They have a good heritage and dont seem to have too many problems and a great following of the lineup. The 390's seem to hold a true backbone and have made there mark in the Sporting world.
Along with many other top gun makers you can look at Benelli and Franchi. They are made from the same company and the biggest difference is that the SBE2 has been updated with a new system and the Franchi is dressed up a little bit. There is an Economy line for someone who can not afford to pay $1000 +/- for for a gun and it is called a Stoeger. The Stoger is made in Turkey and uses some of the same technology that the Benelli/Franchi uses but has some different or older components in it but still along the same base line as functionability. From that standpoint we can talk about a few others.
The Browning Gold, Mossberg 935, Remington 1100, SKB and the Winchester Super X2 all seem to be great guns. There are always going to be your tried and true users but each will have its own faults depending on how someone uses them or maintains them. If a gun is cared for and maintained as thre manufacurer suggests there in therory you should not have any problems with it. But we all know we will all use and abuse our guns at some time in the feild. If it be wet or snowy or just laying the gun down in the mud while we take a pee or something/ This is where fault can come into play.
Sorry if I have made a long post about this but I just find it troubling when I come on here and see people talking up one thing and bashing another only because it is what they own. With that said I will now go back to my assylum![]()
