There may be a new Spotted Bass Kansas record

There may be a new Spotted Bass Kansas record its not offical yet, Kansas law is the fish has to be alive when weighed but if was after dark at 9:30 pm no grocey stores where open could not get a hold of the Kansas Wildlife Parks they tried 5 or 6 numbers with little success. One Biologist was on vaction and the lady that gave them the information knew nothing about it. Earlier today they got a hold of a biologist in Chanute, Labett county. They Bass was caught in Cherokee but they did not have a wildlife biologist there at the time they wanted them to keep the fish on ice for a WEEK!!!. They weighed the fish earlier today and contacted the Chanute Biologist which is saying now that since the fish is dead it may not be the Kansas recored because in the book it says that the fish MUST BE ALIVE. What do you all think on this story should it be counted or should it not.

Rules is rules. It sucks that a guy has to miss out on a record because no one from the state is available, but I think if it were me I would have tried to keep the live well pumping as long as I could, throw some crawdads & minnows in with it to keep her fat & happy. How big was it?

First off, why weren't they doing everything in their power to keep that fish alive. Were these guys not too bright? Yes, you must have a biologist confirm the catch and witness the actual weight on a certified scale, and there's no way they can take a dead fish cause it could've just washed up on shore. It's also, from what I found out, beneficial to have a witness to the catch. This prevents or makes it real difficult for anyone to protest it during the 30 day waiting period.

Maybe it's just me, but if I caught a potential fish of a lifetime, I would be doing everything to number 1, keep the fish alive, and #2 get a dang biologist there as quickly as possible. Mine was still alive and full of piss and vinegar 12 hours after I caught it. I could've kept it alive a lot longer if I needed to. If they didn't have the aeration, go to Wal mart and get it.

Sucks they may have to miss out on the record, but I am with Jason and Bob 100%. If I know I have a potential record fish, I would go to Wal Mart and buy an aquarium if I had to, but it is staying alive.

Sounds like a dandy of a fish if it was for real.

I wonder if these guys knew the rule when they caught it? I agree with you guys though. Worst case scenerio you could buy a samll dog kennel at Wally World and keep that fish right at the lake. I would camp out with it until someone came to verify.

There are million ways they could have kept that fish alive. Sucks for them though, odds are they won't get a second chance.

Not a bad idea. Add a couple pad locks to make sure the gate doesnt open.
