Duly needed work to the boat...

Spent all day working on/in the boat. Strung new line, tied on on lures, organized tackle, adjusted jackplate heighth, replaced seal on port steering ram, washed, waxed, and cleaned carpets. Ready to rock n roll for Wilson this weekend.

Jason, was this the seal that was leaking on your hydraulic steering? I beleive I have the same problem. My wife sent me a pic of mine. She said something was leaking, so I had her take a few pics and It looks like there is some seapage on the drivers side of the seastar cylinder. Was it a easy fix and how much did it cost?

    Brad,
I replaced the seal on the starboard side a couple months ago and the port one started leaking just a little bit so I changed it out now, too. It's really easy, other than you need an extra hand when you bleed the system. You purchase a kit that is about $80 that has both seals, and a special wrench to remove and replace them. They screw right out of the end of the steering ram. You'll also need one quart of hyraulic steering oil. The oil is nasty. You don't want to get it on your clothes or on your boat carpet as it will permanently stain. I threw a t-shirt away yesterday. Being's your a Steelers fan, you will have no problem doing the repair yourself.

Cool, sounds pretty easy! Not exactly what I was hoping to do to the boat when I get home, but for only $80.00 I shouldn't complain. Thanks

I got the seal kit from iboats.com. It was the cheapest place I could find for the parts. A quart of oil will be about $15, too and i would recommend downloading the owners manual for a Seastar Hydraulic Steering System as it will give you the correct instructions for bleeding the system. The kit does not have the bleeding instructions but will tell you how to switch out the seals. Definitely don't want a leak in the steering as you will get slack and it could be dangerous, esp. the way you drive.

Is it possible that when you fogged the motor for storage that it's just leaking out from somewhere Brad?

Yeah the picture the wife sent shows a drop forming right on the piston of the seastar cylinder
