Lifting motor to install jack plate.

I have a 175 03 evinrude DI that i am going to be installing a jackplate on. I found the hook ups on the block but they look to be in poor places making them difficult to use. I see the mercury's have a loop that screws into the flywheel. Is this an option for me? Can I simple get an eye and thread in the top? or is there something better to use?

You can use a good steering wheel puller! There are holes threaded in the flywheel and you can put an I bolt in the center of the puller. Works as good as a lifting ring. Good luck.

The factory built in loops are in the correct position to lift the motor. Use a safety chain with hooks on both ends. Take a 3/8" bolt and pass it through the links to make a loop or eye in the chain and use that to connect to the hoist. Or you can use just the chain and pass it through the lift points and connect the chain ends together with a bolt on each end, then make the loop.
