    ETEC Hesitation again!!

Found this article at ETEC owners group! If it can be fixed why would this be said. I don't like FLICKEN!!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I notice on occasion that i have a slight hesitation in the 1500 to 2000 rpm range. There is a very slight hesitation. I am told by my dealer this is the transitoin from stratified to homogeneous fuel delivery.
    It runs absolutely perfectly otherwise.
This doesn't happen if I acceleragte quickly.
Dealer says bpr set them up to change at this rpm, because most people dont run the motor at that speed.
I am just looking for some verificatoion.
Mine is the 150 hp with about 4 hours on it.
    thanks mike

UPDATE: The slight hesitation is somewhat normal. The point of hesitation is where the ultra low stratified fuel zone is changing over to the normal higher speed zone. Fuel consumption at between 1500 to 2000 rpm on any E-Tec is up to 4 or 5 times lower than any other brand of outboard of similar horsepower.

Spot on. Most people do not run at these RPM for long distances because it is when the boat is half on plane pushing heaps of water. NOT GOOD if you are looking for an easy running motor & good fuel consumption. Always flick the motor on plane if you can.

    Re: ETEC Hesitation again!! (RDOCK)

In simplified terms, there is a transition period from the lean-burn mode to the power mode somewhere around the 1500-2000rpm range. Because the boat is plowing water at that speed, it normally is not objectionable. Depending on the propping and the TPS calibration of the motor, it can be minimized.

Don't forget that carbureted motors for the past 60 years and longer have had a rough running blubber in the same rpm range. That occurs when the carburetor is changing from the low speed jets to the high speed jets, and is running rich in the 1500-2000 rpm range.

The older carb motors were not as quiet and or as smooth running as the new low-emission outboards, so the transition roughness may not have been noticed as much.
