    Drop shotting in Indiana?

I have tryed and tryed this, but have not had any success with a drop shot. any other Indiana guys using the drop shot? any tips? i would like to expand my fishing to more than 12 foot of water and thought a drop shot would be a good start. so far i just havent had any luck and always end up shallow again.

I've caught them on a drop shot but it isn't my "go-to" by any means. I tend to throw it in place of a shakey head. The best way to get acquanted with it is to devote your time to it for a while and BE PATIENT. I got comfortable fishing it at my families farm pond a year to two ago and have thrown it ever since. It's worked a lot for me on the Ohio when a 12" is like gold but its also worked on Patoka. A lot of times you just have to let it sit for a long time, kinda like fishing a jerkbait. Usually you hear people having luck on it when conditions are tough and they aren't interested in any reaction baits. However, a shad imitating shape and color have worked good for me at times fished fairly aggressively. If you're generally a shallow water fisherman, shorten up the tag and flip it in cover. I've found it to be pretty versatile.

i have found myself throwing it in shallow water as well, but just havent gotten that first fish on it to keep throwin it. i learned to fish a jig by taking only jigs with me, guess ill be doing that with the drop shot as well....lol just seems to be a very good bait to be using, but havent done so well. the shaky head i have come to like and throw often, just not so far on the drop shot.
Thanks for the advice, ill give it a try next time out.

My advice would be the carolina rig instead of a drop shot. Carolina rig covers more water, clues you into the bottom makeup/contours, and allows you to fish a multitude of plastics in varying sizes and shapes. I use it to locate fish first, then try different baits/presentations for the bigger fish.

carolina rig is a good bet around here, i have a few places i like to throw it. but with all the break lines and drop offs in the lakes i fish it seems as if a missed opportunity is there.

I love the drop shot during pre / post spawn. Anytime else, I'll be dragging a c-rig or a shakey head.
Been fishin' since I was 5 years old...Thanks Grandpa!

i drop shot year around, caught some really big fish doing it too, i typically stick with hand pour worms, but if i throw otherwise i throw the aarons magic 4.5" straight tail worm by roboworm, if the water is really clear i throw baby bluegill, also like the 4.5" strike king 3x finesse worms in dirt
