    TURNING A 2000 115 JOHNSON INTO A 130 ?

    My brother has a 2000 johnson 115 on a tr17 that is rated for a 135.
It needs reeds and he was wondering about turning it into a 130 . It has very good compression still and has always ran great but he would like that extra little bit if able.
Can ya just recarb it with 130 carbs or change the current carbs.
We are no marine mechanics but at the same time we do all our own work , rebuild our own carbs, have rebuilt a 150 and a 225 Merc so we are familiar with tearing them apart and putting them back together.
    Thanks, Rod

somebody with a little more experience can chime in, but I would think the port timing would be different or the ports themselves would be bigger...intake could be a little different also I guess. Isnt the 130 a "big block" 90 degree looper and the 115 a "small block" 60 degree block?

Not sure . If it was a carb/intake thing I was just going to look for a set off a 130 while I am doing the reeds.

They are two totally different block designs. The 115 is a 60* block and the 130 is a 90 * block. To get 130 HP out of the 115 you would have to change port timing, shave and cc heads run premium fuel and have a life span of about 100 hours.

    Does this mean I can't change my 130 to a 225?

    Dang it.

With a bottomless wallet, nitro-methane, and a supercharger, you could probably accomplish that.

Never mind guys what we thought was a reed turned out to be a whole in the bottom of the block and about 5 bearings laying in the lower cowl.
Was a good motor with over 900 hrs without a problem exept for 1 vro 1 starter and a lower unit replace.
Probably will be listing it to part down. vro was new last year.
    Thanks for the input anyway
