Wow! I'm glad nobody was in the shower, or on the phone. That would have been bad.

Keep an eye on the household appliances that are still working. If they go out in the next couple months they're likely due to that strike.

Might as well plan on taking that tree down now. Probably going to die. See if your insurance will take it down.

DAYUM ! Blew the bark right off that tree !

Does homeowners insurance cover all the stuff ?

    Glad no one was hurt.

I got a jolt onetime through the window when a strike hit near. Scary

Our patio got hit last summer. Had enough force that I had to relay some of the bricks in that area.

Looks like a well done tree to me. I am with the guys above, you will have more problems in a few weeks if not months. That happened to my house when we lived in Mayfield, we had appliances going out for six months

They say lighting never strikes twice, don't believe it, I had a tree close by my house that got hit twice three years apart, split it the last time from top to bottom, but it was already dead from the first strike.

May of 2010 lightning hit a tree in my yard and I had a little over 6k in damages. Per; my home owners insurance (Farm Bureau) they pay $500 for removal cost of the tree if it is within 100 ft of your home.

The lightining strike hit a tree then the current ran into my garage then into my house. I had plug ins in my garge that caught on fire but luckily they went out. All the overhead lights in my garage shattered into a million pieces. If my memory is correct I lost 10-15 plug ins,8 lights,3 telephones,1 computer,2DVD players,1 VHS player,4 TV's,1 motion sensor light and 1 tree.

I am thankful that I am alive; I was washing my truck as the storm approached. As soon as I got it washed I pulled it into the garage to shamy/dry it off and detail the truck. I stayed in the garage for a few minutes after the storm hit, then I went inside the house to fix a sandwich. Not long after that I see a blue streak followed by a big bang...I saw smoke comming from plug ins, it scared the chit out of me.

    Re: Lightening strike (crawdadking)

We had a similar strike several years ago. We didn't loose any tv's, just a phone, and an AC/Heat unit. It struck a tree 5 feet from our unit outside. It fried the inside of the the AC/Heat unit and melted the thermostat inside to our wall. It was definitely a scary moment.
