    Trailer Help

I have an 04' Ranger Trailer with the oil hubs..."turbo lube" is what it says on the sight glass. I was told to tap the sight glass off with a mallet...They don't tap off and now I'm out a seal...these are threaded!

I have a couple of questions. When I got the hub out, I noticed this piece has some play in it. Is it supposed to have play? I didn't think so but wanted to ask.

Also, I was going to replace the brake pads while I had them off....The inside pad pops right out, but I can't get the outside pad off. There's got to be something I'm missing. How do I get this pad out?

Please help!!!! I have a trip planned for the weekend and need to get it up and going. I'm calling Ranger tomorrow to see if they can get me parts in time but may be calling JetA instead and paying to expedite the parts! Not sure how my order was so wrong but not one thing they sent me was a match to what came out!

On your brake pad, can you take a screwdriver and pry the pressure off the piston and get the brake pad out? Looks like the piston has pressure on the pad from the pic.

Matt, our main wheel man is back, i will show him your pictures in the morning and see what i can come up with. I do wish companies would not use so many different parts, hubs and sort, sure does make it hard to match up some times.

    Re: Trailer Help (RangerRodney)

    No kidding Rodney.

I've got several things I'm needing.
    1. Screw in sight glass
    2. Bolt that holds caliper on....Stacy picked up a few from ya'll this weekend but were about 1/2" or so short...the ones Ranger sent weren't even close. The bolt I'm talking about is the same diameter all the way up the bolt...
    3. Brake pads
    4. Outer bearings and race as well as innner race.
    5. Seal

The piston isn't holding it on....Those 2 metal pieces that look like they are bent are holding it from coming out. I tried bending them some but it just didn't seem right. If that's how they really come out and back on, that is the stupidest idea I've seen!

That is called a backing plate and the reason it is lose is because your bolts that hold it to the cal. got a little lose and made the holes a little bigger in the plate.

Some of those ( glass hub insets) u could take a hammer and gentley tap them on the side and they would come off and some you had to unscrew to get off, it's hard to give advice not knowing exactely what you have in hand.

The brake pads are like what was said before, you have to bend those little tits to get them out and when you replace with new ones you bend them down to stay in place.

We have the backing plate, bolts to hold them into the cal and u can get the (inner seals) for the hub at about any NAPA store.

    Re: Trailer Help (RangerRodney)

Ya, get a chisel or punch and bend those tabs out straight and the pad will come right off....Use a 4" C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back in, but make sure you have the lid off the master cylinder first....Also, make sure you get the MARINE seals, the regular ones will let water into the hub...

    Re: Trailer Help (EdDavisKY)

Thanks for all the help guys! It's almost 100% back together but will hold up.

Ranger corrected my order and said I would get parts tomorrow but I was nervous I wouldn't and went ahead and found them local here. I replaced the caliper bracket, bearings, and seal.

Turns out Ranger changed that caliper bracket due to the issues of that nut backing out. The new bracket is double threaded and I put locktite on it.

Instead of putting oil back in the hubs, I just packed the bearings and hub full of marine grease and screwed the cap back on...Pulled it 30 miles with no issues.

Once I get the brakes in, I'll take it all back off and replace the pads. Now, I know how to do it and how simple it really is. I'm always keeping a spare hub, bearings, seal, and grease on my trips moving forward!

    Again...Thanks for all the help.

    Re: Trailer Help (Alliston64)

Glade u got fixed up, one thing of notice, pads on boat trailers hardley ever wear out, just don't get pulled enough by me especially

One thing Swerve said is 1000% right, the marine seals have like a triple guard and do a lot better job than regular seals.

The grease will work just fine Matt, at least if you have a seal go out u will not lose all your oil
