    150 faststrike mods?

My buddy just got a Stratos 285 with a 1995 150 faststrike. Are there any performance mods worth doing on this engine? He's the only Johnson in a club full of Mercs. The Guys in the club with 2.5L carb'd Mercs generally cut the heads, change the reeds and by-pass the advance module for manual advance. Never had a Johnson outboard so I am not sure if they like mods done to them.

http://www.montyracing.com is the answer. He'll take that stock Johnny and make the Merc boys take notice, for the price of a rebuild....

Tell him to check out Scream and Fly for J/E mods.... this forum isn't the place for them. The moderators here do not advise them, as they can cause the motor to fail faster.

The Faststrike is a bulletproof, yet somewhat thirsty motor. It ought to push that Stratos just fine. I would leave well enough alone, as that motor will last a long time.

Yeah, i've known the guy who owned the boat prior and he never had any trouble with the motor other than a couple power packs over the years. It pushes that Stratos 61-62 mph with a stock Raker 24. It's got a 6 inch Jackplate. Most of the guys in the club running the 2.5L Mercs are 62-68 mph. It wouldn't take much to catch them....a little more Rpm's and another pitch in prop oughta do it.

send your prop to mark croxton on the prop board to be blueprinted. That will get another 3mph for about $250.
