Hey all,
Can you guys give a first timer to KY Lake a few tips for catching both smallmouth and largemouth this mid March to late March? We don't have a place to stay yet either. Can you give suggestions on that too?
Thanks!
Andrew

As for fishing, you should look through the wealth of info. posted right here on BBC:

Read through the reports and make note of the water temps., patterns, and lure choices in and around the time frame you'll be there. Gives you a good starting point and should help clue you in as to what's going on.
As for a place to stay, which lake to do you plan on fishing and what part of it?
A good listing of all the surrounding resorts, and other fishing reports, can be found here:

Thanks for the info. I will do that. We are looking to stay on the KY Lake side near the dam. Is that a good place to stay, in general, for KY Lake, or are there better options for 3 days of fishing this March?
Thanks
Thanks,
Andrew

I grew up in Calvert City, which is about 5 minutes from KY Dam. Plenty of chain hotels there to pick from, along with fast food and restaurants as well.
If you're just looking for a place to sleep, the Bel-Air isn't fancy but is cheap. Same goes for Inn By the Lake.
All just depend on what your motel standards are and what you're willing to pay.
As for the fishing, coming out of KY Dam Marina gives you the option of fishing either lake - the canal is almost directly across the lake from KY Dam Marina. Most guys will tell you to go south then, since the lake normally warms up faster the farther south you go. There's plenty of fish to be caught on the north end too, especially if you fish during the week. On weekends the north end gets a little crowded, and is the real reason why most run south anyways.
March is a crap shoot. The wind and the weather are so unstable that it's hard to plan one day to the next. You may have flat water one day, and then 6 ft rollers the next.
Check the KDFWR tournament schedule, so you know if there's a tournament coming out of what you'd like to launch.
